However, some states have created exemptions for medical cannabis use, as well as decriminalized non-medical cannabis use. In four states, Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, the sale and possession of marijuana is legal for both medical and non-medical use. Multiple efforts to reschedule cannabis under the Controlled Substances Act have failed, and the United States Supreme Court has ruled in [[United States v. Oakland Cannabis Buyers' Cooperative]] and Gonzales v. Raich that the federal government has a right to regulate and criminalize cannabis. Also, if the cannabis is called "medical cannabis" the federal law still has priority.		The use, sale and possession of [[cannabis]] (marijuana) in the United States is illegal under federal law.  In Florida the People United for Medical Marijuana was organized to gather signatures to petition for a constitutional amendment allowing the medical use of marijuana. By January 2014, enough signatures had been collected to place an amendment legalizing the medical use of marijuana. On January 27, 2014 the Florida Supreme Court approved the ballot language. The amendment will be on Florida's 2014 general election ballot.
