The publication was founded in 2011 by Marijuana Business Media (FKA CannaBusiness Media), a division of Anne Holland Ventures Inc. It is edited by Chris Walsh, the publisher is George Jage and the CEO is Cassandra Farrington.<br />

In November 2012, the publication launched The Marijuana Business Conference & Expo, a national trade show for the legal marijuana industry. The 3rd annual Marijuana Business Conference & Expo will be held in Las Vegas in November 2014.<br />

In March 2013, the publication held a seminar in New York for cannabis entrepreneurs and investors . In April 2014, the publication produced the CannaBusiness Money Show in Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.<br />

In March 2013, the publication also released the first edition of its Marijuana Business Factbook, which projected that US legalized marijuana sales, estimated at roughly $1.2 billion in 2012 would reach $1.5 billion in 2013. In April 2014, the publication released the Marijuana Business Factbook 2014, including financial forecasts showing the legal cannabis industry could grow to $8 billion by 2018.<br />
